Finishing for shine — the last five minutes of a blow-dry

Shine is made in the last steps of a blow-dry: laying the cuticle, letting it cool and using just a little product in the ends.

Long dark waves with shine

Hair that shines is hair whose cuticle lies flat, and you decide that in the last five minutes of a blow-dry. First dry the hair completely, from root to end, so the surface lies in one direction. Always finish with a cool stream of air along the lengths. Cool air sets the shape and gives the mirror-like effect that warm air takes away. A little product is enough: a few drops of oil or serum spread between your palms and applied to the lengths and ends only, never on the crown, where it makes hair heavy and greasy. Then brush through once with a soft brush and let the hair fall. In winter, when dry indoor air dulls hair faster, that finish is the difference between hair that is merely clean and hair that really catches the light.
